Sport is a powerful tool for young people to improve their health, learn new skills and boost their confidence – especially those that have tough lives.
In the Namuwongo settlement in Uganda, young people are in very vulnerable situations. Home to over 15,000 residents in informal housing, most of the population lives in extreme poverty, with most families earning less than £1 a day. These precarious living conditions place girls at significant risk of teenage pregnancy, HIV infection, and school dropout.
But by providing these girls with football training, as well as life skills education, and a safe space to learn, the Girls United vs Teenage Pregnancy project helps reduce these risks and gives girls the tools to break the cycle of poverty.
