Best start together
Thanks to our partnership with Theirworld, we recently launched our new Best Start Together projects in Ghana and Uganda. Using our Disability Detect App, we aim to screen 4,500 children for disabilities in both countries and provide training and support to teachers and parents so that every child can be included in school.

Early education is vital for child development. Through play-based learning, fine motor skills, mobility, communication and language skills can be developed. And, with early detection and intervention, additional learning needs can be supported which is essential to a child’s wellbeing and self-confidence. So far, 600 children have been screened in Kyaka II refugee settlement in Uganda and 122 children in Ghana have been referred to local services with difficulties with vision, hearing and speech. 130 teaching staff have been trained in inclusive education in Ghana, focusing on making classrooms accessible for all learners, creating individual learning plans and play materials.

It broadened my knowledge on play-based learning and equipped me to make adaptions in my teacher to meet the learning needs of my learners.” Congratulations to Abigail for this well deserved recognition.
