Hope for Children, Chance for Childhood (local partner)

Why is the project needed?

Children with visual impairments in Sri Lanka often face social exclusion and a lack of access to quality education. The Ceylon School for the Blind offers a unique opportunity for these children to receive an education tailored to their needs, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives and gain independence.

About the Project

The Ceylon School for the Blind, located in Colombo, provides a specialist education for children with visual impairments who would otherwise be excluded from education and society. The school supports 95 children, including 91 boarders, by offering tailored education and recreational activities, such as swimming lessons, chess, music, and access to an audio centre.

Goals and Objectives

Provide a high-quality, specialised education for children with visual impairments.

Offer recreational and social development activities, including swimming, chess, guitar, and audio-based learning.

Foster the inclusion of children with disabilities in society by providing them with life skills, social engagement, and access to education.

Our impact so far

95 children receive a specialist education, including 91 boarders who live at the school.

The programme facilitates a variety of recreational activities, helping the children develop both academically and socially.
